According to a latest development, the upcoming coastal road project between Princess Street Flyover and Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) in Mumbai has reached 70 per cent completion level.

Sharing about the same, the Additional Municipal Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and MD of Mumbai Metro corporation Ashwini Bhide tweeted the pictures of the flyover and interchange of coastal road under construction.

“Progress status of Coastal Road Project (South part) being implemented by BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) from princess street flyover to BWSL, 70 per cent work completed,” Ashwini Bhide tweeted.

It is pertinent to note that in November, the project was 65% ready. Later, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ambitious coastal road project has seen an upgrade by 3 per cent

On Sunday, December 18, the BMC released a video shot by a drone showing the coastal road which is expected to reduce the travel time by 70% and fuel consumption by 34%.

As per sources, the MMRDA authorities aim to make it open later this year, that is by November 2023.

For those unversed, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project stretches upto 10.58 km and has 2.07-km-long twin tunnels. This would be Mumbai’s second twin tunnel, the first twin tunnels are part of the Eastern Freeway near Chembur. The alignment starts from BD Somani Chowk on Marine Drive, which is next to the Princess Street Flyover and will be merged with Bandra Worli Sea Link on the Worli side.

The BMC has undertaken construction work of Mumbai Coastal Road project to reduce traffic congestion in the city and save Mumbaikars' time.

The average speed on Mumbai’s roads is around 20–21 kmph. Meanwhile, on the Mumbai Coastal Road, it is estimated to be around 75kmph for cars, similar to that on the Bandra Worli Sea Link.
