After Nariman Point and Bandra-Kurla Complex, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to make Wadala the third central business district of Mumbai. Wadala is all set to get a transformation and the government is open to suggestions by the public.

The citizens can access and refer the plan on the MMRDA site on the Internet and can send their suggestions/doubts to the MMRDA by April 15. Project Director(Public Relations), Dilip Kawadkar told Mumbai Live,

Once the suggestions/objections are in, we will get a sanction from the government and start issuing tenders for the development.”

According to a report by the planning authority, the plans are to develop the area commercially and consist of residential properties. Also, the proposal to create prospects for the retail sector, restaurants, hotels, public open spaces and service apartments is also being made. MMRDA is positive that the plan will create more than 92,000 jobs in the upcoming three decades.

MMRDA is also planning to create an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) at Wadala in order to expand the means of transportation and reduce the number of illegally parked buses on the streets. And all this may happen with an addition of making the area pedestrian-friendly along with smart parking and well-laid utility lines.

A senior official said that besides BKC, now Wadala will also become a source of income for revenue for MMRDA.

People can send their suggestions, ideas and objections (in writing) to Chief, Town, and Country Planning Division, 3rd Floor, MMRDA, New Office Building, Plot Nos. R-5,6 and 12, E-Block, BKC, Bandra (East), Mumbai- 51.
