In a significant development, the Western Railways (WR) has proposed to link Bandra suburban railway station with Bandra Terminus via skywalk to ensure easy access between the locations.

The railways want to make Bandra Terminus more accessible by foot. Therefore, the WR has initiated a proposal to connect the foot over bridge (FoB) at the north end of Bandra suburban station to a skywalk at Bandra terminus. The length of the new sky walk will be about 350m.

For this, railways have already undertaken a survey and also ascertained its feasibility.

The proposal has been forwarded to the HQ for Railway Board sanction in the current year's work programme. The estimated cost is INR 32 crores.

At present, passengers can alight at Bandra or Khar Road suburban station to reach Bandra terminus by foot. However, the roads are congested and walking is uncomfortable, especially during monsoon and summer. Also, share autos are said to overcharge travellers.

On explaining the need for skywalk at Bandra station rather than Khar Road, railway officials stated that a skywalk between Bandra and BDTS is likely to have more footfalls compared to the one from Khar Road. Only slow trains of both main and Harbour lines halt at Khar Road station. Bandra station, on the other hand, has halts for fast trains and many bus routes too operate from its vicinity, both on the east and west side.

With this facility, passengers can reach Bandra terminus from Bandra station too.

For those unversed, in July 2022, WR had opened a skywalk between Khar Road station's southern-end and BDTS. The skywalk is 314m long and 4.4m wide and considered WR's longest.
