Mumbai - The Bristish Development Department or BDD chawls have been the earliest residential areas in and around central Mumbai. Now with the structures becoming older, redevelopment is on the cards.

Tender has been released in connection to the redevelopment of BDD chawls in Naigaon, Delisle road, Sewri and Worli. Residents are not satisfied with the process of releasing tenders, as they think it doesn't work out the way they want.

A meeting will be held in BDD chawl in regard with this. Residents have made it very clear that they must get desired carpet area, rent and copper's fund. If the demands are not met residents will protest against the government.

It is interesting to note that these were prison buildings during the british rule and converted to residential use where in mostly mill workers and their families have stayed since 1950's.
