The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now pushed the deadline for completion of the Lower Parel bridge to 2023. Initially, bridgework was supposed to be over by the end of 2021 or during the start of 2022. In 2018, the 98-year old bridge was pulled down.

While addressing the media, the civic officials have stated unless Western Railways don't launch the girders on the bridge, the administration can not do much. BMC had planned initially to construct the approach roads and bridge over the rail lines simultaneously. However, the girders are lying on the approach road, and the civic body is finding it difficult to carry out its work.

The bridge is popularly known as the Delisle Road bridge. Its structure was a vital link in connecting Lower Parel, Worli, Prabhadevi in the west to Currey Road, Lalbaug, and Byculla in the east.

A senior BMC official has said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the work slowed down. Even though they could carry out the work, staff wasn't available. However, now when the railway completes its work, they can easily finish their work on the approach roads.

Western Railways, while commenting on the same, have said that their work will get over by April 2022. The WR's PRO has stated that they are likely to launch the first girder by January 2022 and the second by April 2022.
