According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to undertake the repair works of a section of the Eastern Freeway that is between Bhakti Park and the entrance of tunnels.
It has been reported that the civic authority will be spending INR 27.05 crore on the project. In accordance with the proposal, the current patch between Bhakti Park and the tunnel’s entrances has developed many cracks and potholes.
Therefore, a part of the work includes the concretization of the damaged sections as well as the resurfacing of the stretch which is 7.6km long. This will be done with bitumen and mastic asphalt.
The said proposal is one of the many which will be tabled before the civic body’s Standing Committee on Wednesday, March 2.
Based on accounts, the work is anticipated to be finished in the next year, officials from the civic body were quoted in accounts elaborating on how upon receiving the approval, work can commence immediately.
The eastern freeway connects south Mumbai in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus area to Govandi and Chembur. It was built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). Then in 2015, it was handed over to the civic authority for maintenance purposes.
