The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received the green signal to widen the Hazarimal Somani Road that connects Fashion Street to CSMT.
This is one of the 349 proposals that have been cleared by the state’s Urban Development Department. The civic body sent over these proposals as a portion of the ‘Excluded Part’ of the new Development Plan (DP) that went into effect on September 2018.

With this new road widening proposal getting the go-ahead from the state, it is likely that Bombay Gymkhana will have to let go of some of its lands to accommodate the widening. The existing road is approximately 60 feet wide and officials have said that it will be widened to 80 feet.

It’s worth mentioning that even though the plan was first drafted back in 2016, it never took off due to the legal tussle between the civic body and the management of the Gymkhana.
The BMC has undertaken multiple infrastructure projects in the city over the past couple of years. Though its plans received a setback during the COVID-19 lockdowns earlier this year, the civic body is looking to expedite pending projects.
