In a recently taken, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to sanction INR 191 crore for the construction and repair work of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) colonies and roads in the respective locality. An additional amount of INR 250 crore is being planned for sanction, which will be used for construction of more roads, which will help other MHADA colonies as well. The decision regarding the same will be announced over the next few days.
A report regarding the same was published in the Mid-Day, which mentioned that officials from the state-level bodies - MHADA, PWD, and MMRDA – recently conducted a meeting in Mumbai to discuss the road and maintenance plan.
The reported quoted an official from the BMC who said, “The roads in the MHADA layout will be constructed in cement concrete. Some of the proposals were already sanctioned in the standing committee and other proposals will be tabled in the next meeting for approval.”
The decision came after several complaints filed regarding the condition of roads. Moreover, the municipal corporation, in a recently held meeting, cleared the construction proposals worth INR 1,790 crore which included both the layout for MHADA and the roads. The department plans to construct 46 roads in cement concrete as this is said increase the life of the roads. The administration has planned to ensure the roads have an improved shelf life and good quality.
However, it is being said that the bids received for the project are 15-25% less than the estimated amount and this has raised several concerns. Questions have been posed by corporators regarding the same and further added that the quality will deteriorate since the BMC has planned to release the amount in parts.
