The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set June 25 as the deadline to open the flyover connecting Vidyavihar East and West before the monsoon reaches Mumbai. The flyover passes over the Vidyavihar railway station and is seen as an important connectivity project for the area.

On Thursday, January 29, engineers from the BMC bridges department visited the site along with Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijeet Bangar to review the progress of the work. During the inspection, Bangar instructed officials to complete road realignment on the western side and remove affected residential and commercial structures before the monsoon begins.

The flyover connects Ramkrishna Chemburkar Marg on the eastern side to Lalbahadur Shastri Marg on the western side. It is 650 metres long and has two lanes. Around 100 metres of the bridge passes over the railway tracks. The flyover will also provide access to the walkways leading to Vidyavihar railway station.

As part of the project, following station facilities have been rebuilt:

1. Staircases on both sides of the station

2. The station master’s office

3. The railway ticket counter

4. A staircase within the railway boundary to link the pedestrian walkway

Work on the eastern side of the flyover is nearing completion. All remaining work on this side will be completed by February 28. This includes finishing the solid approach road and surfacing the entire bridge. On the western side, six pillars have already been constructed.

However, major work is still pending on the western side. This includes construction of the approach road, the bridge span, and the remaining four pillars. Progress has been slow due to residential and commercial buildings in the area, ongoing road works, and challenges in diverting traffic.
