According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated an INR 25 crore tender to develop four theme parks or gardens in Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs. The BMC's planning department has proposed four theme parks that include a Barefoot Meditation Park in Vikhroli, Science Park in Ghatkopar, Traffic Park in Kandivali and a Multi-purpose Sports Club in Dahisar, reports stated.
Based on accounts, suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray envisioned these four theme parks and made a different provision of funds through the District Planning Committee to upscale suburban Mumbai through urban interventions.
The BMC reportedly has identified 28,487 sq m of recreational space for the Barefoot Meditation Park which will have a yoga and meditation area, rock climbing zone, pebble pathways, grassy and muddy paths for barefoot walking.
For the Science Park, the BMC has proposed to transform the present 19,135 sq m garden to ensure that it includes an amphitheatre, as well as a section to display interactive physical science equipment.
On the other hand, for the Traffic Park, the BMC will repurpose the present 8,000 sq m playground. It will come with a badminton arena, field tracks, open-air gym with the inclusion of traffic elements such as boards, signages, foot over bridge models and a pet-safe area.
For the multi-purpose sports club, a playground spread across 497 sq m has been shortlisted where the BMC looks to build cricket pitches, Kabaddi and volleyball courts.
The civic body has, however, faced criticism for allotting significant amounts to theme parks while it struggled to maintain them, remarked accounts.
