In a bid to keep pedestrians on the streets safe from aggressive motorists, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday greenlit a project that will see the establishment of fibreglass railings on footpaths across key locations of Mumbai.
The civic body will reportedly spend ₹75 crores towards pedestrian safety improvements which include the fibreglass railings. Officials quoted by Mumbai Mirror said that these railings will improve safety on Mumbai’s roads while also creating enough distance between the road and the footpath.

The railings will be particularly helpful during peak hour traffic when some riders decide to encroach on the footpath to beat the traffic.
The report goes on to say that the BMC will install fibreglass walls on roads as well as dividers at around 30 roads of Mumbai. It is further said that a contractor has been appointed for this project with a completion deadline of 36 months.
