Metro 2B construction: Bombay HC raps MMRDA for ignoring residents’ plea

The Bombay High Court (HC) slammed Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) for ignoring local residents while constructing a route of Metro 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale). Along with this, MMRDA was criticised for ignoring residents’ suggestions and opposition for Metro 2B’s construction said petitioner Nitin Killawala.

JVPD and Khar residents are opposing Metro 2B’s construction as they believe that metro pillars will make roads narrow, which will trigger a traffic jam. JVPD Resident Association and Khar Resident Association filed two different petitions. The hearing took place on Monday where MMRDA was criticised and asked to make changes to their route.

MMRDA officials in their defence told the court that they have the authority to take a final decision, said Killawala. The next hearing will take place on August 24, 2018.
