In order to beautify the Byculla railway station, an NGO sought permission from the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) to approve for restoring the station.

Earlier in 2016, the 166-year-old heritage site was adopted by ‘I Love Mumbai Foundation’ under an initiative to beautify 36 railway stations in Mumbai’s suburbs. The initiative ‘Hamara Station Hamari Shaan’ was started by Mumbai First and Making a Difference (MAD) to fulfil the same objective.

Under this initiative, the foundation plans to transform the dumping grounds near the grand-old railway station into gardens. The NGO is run by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shaina NC. On Tuesday, the BJP leader said that Byculla station is one of the city’s original stations.
