The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) authorities recently stated that they will be utilising the Charkop Car Depot for Metro 7 (Dahisar E-Andheri-E) along with Metro 2-A (Dahisar- D.N. Nagar). The officials further stated that 92 per cent of the work of the depot is completed and it will house 24 trains.

Earlier, MMRDA was going to get a land in Dahisar for Metro 7 car depot, however, the High Court's decision of handing over the plot to Airport Authority of India is still pending. The depot is all set to receive 12 trains from Bengaluru's Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) by July 2020 and another 12 trains in the next quarter.  

The MMRDA authorities stated that Metro 2-A and Metro 7 can be operational from December 2020. It is planning to construct 337km of Metro network in the city and the metropolitan region by 2026. As of now, the construction of eight corridors is underway.

Earlier this month, MMRDA said that Metro 7 and 2-A will focus on being more pedestrian-friendly. It has decided to reserve 500 metres outside all 30 stations of Metro 2A and Metro 7 for rickshaws, cycles and private vehicles. It was found in the survey that 25 per cent of the passengers will use auto, about 1 per cent will use their bicycles and 5 per cent of commuters will travel by private cars. 

The footpath will be a minimum of 2.5 metres in width along with the length of the corridor. MMRDA is further planning to even have benches and trees. To ensure proper traffic movement, there will even be parking areas for buses, rickshaw and private vehicles which will serve as pick-up and drop off points.
