Mumbai- Mumbaikars will have to wait five more months for the Chembur to Jacob Circle monorail route.
Though work on the monorail is 98 per cent complete, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority needs to conduct a few tests and requires a few permissions from the Railway Board. This whole process will take three to four months. “Monorail will be operational from June,” said Sanjay Khandare, additional commissioner, MMRDA.
Currently, the Chembur to Wadala monorail line is running in losses and the MMRDA believes that the new Jacob Circle to Wadala monorail line will cover up these losses. The Authority is now keen to start off the second phase of the monorail. Khandare added that due to change in the design of the coaches, five monorail coaches have not reached Mumbai yet, but will soon be flown to the city.
