To solve the problem of traffic congestion in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, two important projects has been thrown open to public. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) finally got the time for the stalled inauguration of the 1235-metre flyover at Chheda Nagar Junction, as well as the 3.03-km-long elevated road between Kapadia Nagar-Vakola Nala. Both these projects will be put into traffic service immediately after the inauguration and this will bring great relief to the citizens.

Vehicles coming from Eastern Freeway get stuck in the traffic jam at Chheda Nagar Junction. Therefore, MMRDA has taken up Chheda Nagar Traffic Improvement Project. Under this project, three flyovers and one subway are being constructed in Chheda Nagar. The first of these three-lane bridges is 680 metres long and is on the route connecting Sion and Thane. Another two-lane 1,235-metre flyover is on the route connecting Mankhurd and Thane.

The third 638 metre long Chheda Nagar flyover has been connected to the Santacruz-Chembur road. INR 249.29 crores are being spent for this. Out of the three flyovers, the 638 metre long Chheda Nagar flyover was opened for traffic in March 2022. The first phase of the 518 metre long and 37.5 metre wide subway along with the Chheda Nagar flyover has also been opened for traffic. Now the 1,235 metre long road bridge connecting Mankhurd and Thane in Chheda Nagar Junction area has been completed.

Along with this flyover in Chheda Nagar, the Kapadianagar-Vakola Nala 3.03 km elevated road has also been completed. The MMRDA has taken up the road widening project to solve the problem of traffic congestion at Kapadia Nagar in Kurla, and also to facilitate access to BKC and Vakola from the Santacruz-Chembur road. Under this, two elevated roads namely Kapadia Nagar, Kurla to Vakola and Vakola to Bharat Diamond Bourse are being constructed.

This work started in 2016 and was expected to be completed in 2020. But the project got delayed due to various reasons. The first phase of both these elevated routes has been put into traffic service recently. Kapadia Nagar-Vakola (Hansbhurga route) elevated route Maharashtra State Fire Building to Razak Junction one lane (towards Vakola), MTNL Junction to LBS (towards BKC) was opened for traffic a few days ago. The work of 3.03 km long elevated road such as Vakola Nala has also been completed.

These projects have been completed in the third week of April itself. However, MMRDA was adamant to launch this project at the hands of the Chief Minister. So the launch was delayed as per the report by Loksatta. As the inauguration was getting delayed, the enraged citizens started taking the vehicles from the elevated route. On getting information about this, MMRDA immediately closed this elevated road for traffic on Tuesday morning.
