Central Railway’s freight loading in October 2021 is also the best in any October loading. They loaded 6.17 million tonnes of freight in October- 2021.

They transported 6.17 million tonnes of freight in October- 2021, opposed to 5.75 million tonnes in October 2020 registering an increase of 7.5 per cent.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said that it has surpassed the loading target of 6.09 million tonnes this month. This higher freight loading is attributed to initiatives taken by Business Development Units (BDUs) set up by Central Railway at the Zonal and Divisional levels. He also said that freight transportation by rail is the safest, quickest and environment friendly and that the Central Railway is exploring all possible ways to boost the freight loading performance.

Due to the BDUs, freight traffic is steadily increasing. Export traffic of cotton for Bangladesh from Nagpur and galvanized steel from Jindal, Vasind via Mumbai Port Trust has also begun.

This increase in loading has increased the freight revenue to 584.2 crores in Oct-2021 from 483.6 crores in the corresponding month last year registering an increase of 100.4 crores which is 20.4 per cent.
