MMRDA's Shaky Skywalks

SHARES

Mumbai - Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has constructed several skywalks in Mumbai over the years. MMRDA was to construct 56 skywalks but have constructed around 36. The skywalks connect the suburban railway stations with heavily congested destinations so pedestrian could skip the crowd in commercial areas around the stations.
The condition of the skywalks in the city is very deplorable. It seems that skywalks have outlived their tenure if we look at their condition. Around Rs 15 crores were spent on constructing Dahisar skywalk five years back and last week part of the skywalk slab collapsed.
The total amount spent on constructing 36 skywalks is Rs 865 crore. Skywalks in Kala Nagar, Bandra (West), Ghatkopar and Dahisar are in bad state. MMRDA is responsible for the poor maintenance of the skywalks cause' and hope they look into the matter and repair them.
