With an aim to provide every person with a house, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has been making houses affordable for people in cities like Mumbai. However, some people are unable to buy the houses due to high deposit amounts and so, this time MHADA is expected to slash down the deposit amount for the applicants.

Accordingly, MHADA Mumbai Board President Uday Samant stated that a decision regarding the same will be made soon and a meeting for the same will be held with the housing board officials.

Interestingly, the deposit amount for MHADA’s other boards including Konkan Board is comparatively less. The deposit amount for EWS-₹5,000, for LIG-₹10,000, for MIG-₹15,000, and for UIG-₹20,000, has been kept for Konkan Board. However, the deposit amount for Mumbai Board is seen to be threefold, i.e. for EWS-₹15,000 and so on.

Therefore, for several years, the applicants have been asking MHADA to reduce the amount of deposit so that they can apply twice or thrice, without hesitation. However, the housing authority has been passive towards the applicants' demands.

Accordingly, Samant stated that the applicants may receive three options; reduced deposit amount, multiple applications on a single deposit, and instead of levying deposit charges, the authorities will just charge the application charges. However, Samant has reaffirmed that the final decision will be made by the authorities at the meeting.
