Dharavi, which is said to be Asia's largest slum, is almost certain to be redeveloped. Dharavikar's demand is that eligible slum dwellers should get 500 square feet houses.

Similarly, Dharavi Rehabilitation Project Pvt. Ltd. (DRPPL), a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Government of Maharashtra, working on the Dharavi project, has formed a special purpose vehicle to provide three hundred and fifty square feet (350 square feet) houses to eligible slum dwellers.

The area of the house in Dharavi is 17 percent more than other slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai and the building will have a separate kitchen and toilet along with privacy, hygiene and basic amenities for Dharavi residents. But it will also be important to see whether Dharavikar will accept the area announced by Adani Group or not. Meanwhile, a massive protest was organised by the Thackeray Group when the work of redevelopment of Dharavi slum was given to Adani Group. It was also alleged by Thackeray Group that a big scam has taken place in this.

Adani Group has issued a press release and clarified on these allegations. “The Dharavi Redevelopment Project in Mumbai was awarded to the Adani Group through a fair, open and internationally competitive bidding process,” it said, adding that the tender terms were finalised when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was in power.
