An agreement was signed between the renowned Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited (Starlink) and the Information Technology Department of the state government with the aim of providing satellite-based internet services to remote areas of the state. Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to sign an agreement with Elon Musk's company for internet services after it announced the launch of services in the country.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis expressed confidence that this MoU will make state-of-the-art technology available. The agreement was signed by Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer and the government's Secretary of the Department of Information Technology, Virendra Singh.
CM Fadnavis said that every school, health center and village, even in remote areas, will now be digitally connected. Maharashtra's vision for inclusive and resilient digital development is entirely compatible with ours. "We will set an example by empowering education, healthcare, and rural communities through satellite internet," said Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer.
Key objectives of the pilot phase: To provide satellite internet connectivity to government and tribal schools, Aaple Sarkar Kendras and primary health centres
Improving communication in disaster response and coastal security systems
Providing high-speed internet access for education and healthcare
Implementing training and capacity-building programs for state agencies and local communities
After the pilot phase is completed, this initiative will be expanded across the state, making Maharashtra a national leader in satellite-based digital infrastructure.
