Recently, the redevelopment work of these BDD chawls has been awarded to the L&T and the Shapoorji Pallonji companies. As the actual work is going to be started soon, MHADA has planned to get its bhoomipujan performed.
The housing agency of the state government has started preparation. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will launch the redevelopment of the Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls conducting bhoomipujan on Saturday.
On 18 March 2016 cabinet cleared the redevelopment of the 100-year-old BDD chawls. The new structures will get a floor space index (FSI) of 4. Nearly 80,000 people live in the crawl spread in Worli. The profit margin of the redevelopment will be shared between the government and Mhada in the ratio of 70:30.
