Mumbai - The new year has brought a smile to mill workers in the city who stand to be benefitted by the government's housing scheme.
Workers, who have not filled the forms yet to apply for the scheme, will be able to do so online in April. Around 1.5 lakh mill workers appealed to the MHADA for getting their homes sanctioned, according to senior MHADA officers. In 1982, there were 2.5 lakh mill workers in the city, of whom only 1.5 lakh have filed the applications so far. The workers are fighting for their rights and have sought judicial intervention to get proper housing. The court has now asked MHADA to let the workers fill the form for the houses.
