Central Railway (CR)’s Mumbai Division conducted extensive maintenance work across various sections, ensuring the safety and reliability of its services for millions of commuters. The maintenance operations, conducted during Sunday Mega Block o­n December 17, 2023 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, encompassed critical Track Maintenance and Overhead Equipment (OHE) enhancements.

Track Maintenance

Additionally, Permanent Way maintenance between Thane and Kalyan o­n the UP & DOWN Fast lines during the Sunday Mega Block further solidified the railway's infrastructure demonstrating Central Railway's dedication to ensuring top-notch infrastructure for seamless operations.

UP Fast line from Kalyan to Thane:

• 10 MBC sleepers hauling & replacement work for 200 m with 13 staff
• Central Drain cleaning work for 400 m including Diva Platform no 4/5 with 29 staff
• 80 sleepers shallow screening work for 100 m with 22 staff
• Track attention o­n bridge & approach and pipe pushing work for 240 m with 93 staff
• Thane Creek Bridge attention work for 100 m with 7 staff
• Turn Out attention work for 100 m with 21 staff    
• Glued Joint packing & fitting work of Crossings for 100 m with 8 staff  
• 300 sleepers Elastic Rail Clip (ERC) lubrication and 30 sleepers missing fitting attention work for 200 m with 11 staff
• 23 rails and 52 sleepers hauling & stacking work for 1.5 km with 40 staff
• 450 crushed GRPs & Liners replaced for 200 m at Diva Platform no 5 with 8 staff
• 300 sleepers crushed GRP & Liners replaced with Elastic Rail Clip (ERC) greasing for 200 m between Diva and Kopar with 23 staff
• Plain track tamping done for 200 m between Diva and Mumbra with 22 staff

DOWN Fast line from Thane to Kalyan:

• Weld joint loose packing attention work for 100 m
• Turn Out attention work for 100 m
• Bridge approach packing and loose joint packing work for 100 m with 11 staff
• 360 sleepers’ Elastic Rail Clip (ERC) lubrication & Through Fitting Renewal (TFR) work for 200 m with 24 staff
• Thane Creek Bridge attention work for 100 m with 7 staff
• Tamping work is done by Duomatic-8054 for 2300 m with 16 staff
• 27 rails hauling & replacement, 6 ATs welding, 6 joints welding work done and 5 rails welding work for 120 m with 133 staff
• 48 cribbs shallow screening work for 100 m with 29 staff
• 25 rails and 48 Mono Block Concrete Sleepers (MBC) hauling & stacking work for 300 m with 36 staff
• 17 scrap rails hauling & stacking done for 700 m between Kopar and Dombivli with 12 staff
• 40m packing done for 200 m with 19 staff

The meticulous execution of these maintenance activities involved a skilled team of 471 staff members.

Overhead Equipment (OHE)
During the Sunday Mega Block and Special Night Block, meticulous attention was given to the Overhead Equipment (OHE) at UP & DOWN Trans-Harbour lines, 5th & 6th lines, and UP & DOWN Fast lines between Thane and Kalyan.

• Slewing & restoration of OHE for 14 Spans at Thane for FOB girders launching
• Dismantling of old 323 sq mm catenary wire between Mumbra & Diva of 1.294 km
• Dismantled suspension arrangement of 1.15 km
• Annual Overhaul (AOH) of OHE between Mulund & Diva of 4.25 km
• Tower Wagon checking between between Mulund & Diva of 4.25 km
• Took Contact wire wear reading between Mulund & Diva of 4.25 km
• Done Droppering between Mumbra & Diva of 3.25 km
• Erection of 6 new AC bracket assembly between Mumbra & Diva
• Provided 2 over loop contact wires o­n RRA clamp with PG clamp between Mulund & Thane
• Annual Overhaul (AOH) of 2 uninsulated overlaps between Nahur & Mulund
• Adjusted steady arm and C&G jumper between Mulund & Kalva of 1.8 km
• Cross over adjustment at 2 locations between UP Trans-Harbour to Thane Platform nos 9 & 10
• Cleaning of 135 insulators
• Applied Room-temperature Vulcanized (RTV) compound o­n composite type 48 insulators
• Stagger adjustment of 2 km
• Replaced 4 rusty brackets between Kanjurmarg & Bhandup
• Transferred suspension OHE load from 65 sq.mm catenary wire to 129 sq.mm catenary wire between Kalva & Kopar of 0.5 km
• Replacement of 34 structure bonds

The maintenance work were carried out with 1 Special Crane, 8 Tower Wagons and
8 Trestle/ Ladder Gangs. The maintenance team consisted of 4 officers, 21 supervisors and 121 staff members.
