In order to provide good quality pothole free roads to the citizens of Thanekar, road works are going on at various places under the fund of INR 605 crore provided to Thane city by the state government. The inspection of the first phase of all these works was recently completed by the experts of IIT.


During this inspection, they said that some of the works were satisfactory and there were technical errors in some of the works. Corrections were made in respect of works which required improvement, and where technical aspects were not followed. He said that only after these things are fulfilled, the quality of the road will remain as expected. A review of all these matters was presented by the experts of IIT on Saturday, June 03, 2023 before all the engineers and contractors of the Municipal Corporation.


He guided in the workshop what steps should be taken to make the necessary changes so that all the works are technically the best before the finishing of all these works.

On Saturday, the Thane Municipal Corporation organised a workshop for all the engineers and contractors of the Municipal Corporation at the Civil Research Center. Workshop Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, I.I.T. Mumbai Deputy Director Prof. Mr. K.V. Krishna Rao, Prof. Mr. Solomon Debarma and colleagues were present. The workshop was guided by experts from IIT. How to identify the quality of materials used for road works, quality assessment of work, quality control and proper working methods, tests to be done for roads, effect of environment and temperature, other matters to be done for quality work, analysis of technical matters and other ancillary matters. On this occasion, the technical difficulties faced by the engineers while working on the roads were also resolved.


It is necessary to cut the road at a certain distance within twelve hours of filling the concrete, otherwise the road may crack. Also, after making a mastic road, if the traffic passes over it, the road becomes smooth otherwise it remains rough. Therefore, some technical advice was given in this workshop to ensure that the traffic will be transported from each lane alternately.

Roads should be made as per the advice of IIT experts

Core cutting is done at 282 places in 282 jobs. All these samples should be tested at the IIT laboratory or other laboratories under the supervision of the IIT. Where to take the core cutting will be decided by the third party rather than by those who have done the work. Asphalting and mastic works are in the final stage and UTWT and concrete works will be completed in the next few days. Attention should be paid to the finishing of the work, Commissioner Abhijit Bangar mentioned that the work will be truly completed after the road marking is done with thermoplastic paint.
