Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has recently revealed plans to extend the Mumbai coastal road project to the suburbs of the city, that is till Virar.

The project, which covers a distance of 29.2 kilometres, is designed to connect Marine Lines in the south to Kandivali in the north along Mumbai's western coast.

The extension of the coastal road project to Virar showcases a significant development for Mumbai's transportation infrastructure. The expansion will go beyond Worli to reach Dahisar and Virar in the western suburbs.

The project is divided into two distinct phases. Phase 1 focuses on a 9.98 km stretch, starting from the Princess Street flyover and extending to the Worli end. Phase 2 covers a longer distance of 19.22 km, starting from the Bandra end and ending at Kandivali.

Once completed, the coastal road will provide eight lanes to accommodate approximately 130,000 vehicles daily. This will result in reduction in travel time, from the current 2 hours to just 40 minutes.
