The Maharashtra government has allocated around ₹40 crore for development works in slum areas of Dahisar, Borivali and Kandivali, with the funds aimed at improving basic civic infrastructure and living conditions.
The funding will be used for works such as improving internal roads and passages, drainage and gutter systems, public toilets, paver blocks and other essential civic facilities in densely populated settlements.
The allocation is significant for Mumbai’s western suburbs, which have several large slum pockets where residents continue to face problems related to poor drainage, sanitation, damaged roads and inadequate public amenities.
Improving drainage and sanitation is particularly important during the monsoon, when waterlogging and overflowing drains can create serious problems for residents.
The funds are being provided through government development schemes, with local development allocations being used for infrastructure works in the respective areas.
The focus now is on ensuring that the sanctioned money translates into actual improvements on the ground. Residents have often faced delays in civic projects, making implementation and monitoring as important as the allocation itself.
The ₹40 crore funding could improve basic infrastructure for thousands of residents across Dahisar, Borivali and Kandivali. However, the impact will ultimately depend on timely execution, quality of construction and proper maintenance of the completed works.
