On Tuesday, June 28, the Maharashtra Energy Department headed by Nitin Raut signed an MoU with Adani Green Energy (AGEL) for an investment worth INR 60,000 crore for putting up pumped storage projects. This is anticipated to have an aggregate generation capacity of 11,000 MW in five years, reports stated.

According to accounts, Raut elaborated on how the proposed investment is a momentous development in Maharashtra's non-conventional and green energy sector. The power is anticipated to be supplied to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC). 

Based on narratives, the proposed investment will provide 30,000 jobs. Moreover, the MoU was signed in the presence of Raut, accompanied by the energy department principal secretary Dinesh Waghmare, Ajit Barodia, Senior Vice President and Akshay Mathur, Associate Vice President of AGEL.

Raut took to Twitter to mention, "Adani Group's agreement of 60 thousand crore rupees with the Energy Department is a good news for the state. Under this agreement, 11 thousand MW of electricity will be produced in the next 5 years, 30 thousand jobs will also be created."

This is reported to be the second prominent investment in the state energy sector. Earlier the MSEDC signed an MoU with a Gurgaon-based company at the World Economic Forum in Davos for investments amounting to INR 50,000 crore. This investment is likely to be made over the next seven years wherein nearly 30,000 individuals would get access to employment opportunities.
