In order to ease the travel between Mumbai and Thane, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has undertaken the decision to prolong the Eastern Freeway to Thane, highlighted reports.

According to accounts, it was in a board meeting spearheaded by Eknath Shinde, the urban development minister that the formal decision was undertaken. Presently, the Freeway that commences from south Mumbai ends at Chembur’s Shivaji Nagar, however, there persists a traffic hurdle when travelling towards Thane.

Many believe that it is owing to the Freeway that traffic movement has become faster from south Mumbai to Chembur and Ghatkopar. Shinde, who is also the guardian minister of Thane has been a staunch advocate of this initiative.

Based on narratives, the proposal seeks to extend the Freeway from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, from where an elevated road has been sought between Anand Nagar and Saket. Additionally, a creek road will be present to bypass Ghodbunder Road.

Apart from the above, in the meeting in-principle approval was also accorded for the Kopri-Patani bridge, as well as, the Kharegaon bypass road. This is hoped to decongest traffic in busy areas such as Kharegaon, Kalwa and Vitava.
