In parallel to Mumbai's eastern coast is Tata Gardens which is a popular jogging park for residents of the upmarket Breach Candy district. Tata Gardens is now one of the focal points of the Coastal Road project.

A 10.5 km portion of the coastal road which is from Princess Street Flyover to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli sea link, will pass through the gardens. The road also passes from the Priyadarshini Park and Haji Ali

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be connecting the coastal road with the existing internal road through this garden.

However, the impact of the coastal road on Tata Garden is a cause of concern, similar to Priyadarshini Park. Around 600 trees will be cut down or transplanted during the construction of the road, and out of these, nearly 61 will be from Tata Gardens.

The residents had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the same, and the Bombay High Court issued a temporary stay order. However, the court took back the order since the petitioners were not able to cough up 0.5 per cent of the project cost. It amounts to INR 60 crore, under rule 7A of the PIL.

Meanwhile, the civic body has said that the garden will be extended towards the sea. BMC will use the reclaimed land to allocate space for green cover.

In September, civic commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal had said that Mumbai's eight-lane coastal road project will be completed by November 2023.
