On Monday, September 27, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar gave a deadline to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to fill all the potholes in 8-10 days.

Kishori Pednekar inaugurated Jari Mari Marg in Kurla and Subhash Nagar Marg in Chembur, in the eastern suburbs.

The mayor said that it is understandable to have potholes due to rains, but staffers have to fill up the potholes when the rains stop, and there is a dry spell.

She further added that Road Engineers (REs) are appointed to fill up the potholes, but it would be wrong if they are given additional charge of other departments.

An inquiry will be ordered to check if REs are given additional work. Pednekar has also asked the deputy municipal commissioner and chief engineer (roads) to investigate the potholes on the streets and submit a report about the same.

She has ordered that the responsibility for filling the potholes be assigned to the assistant engineer (roads). She has directed that they should fill the potholes immediately.

The BMC had reportedly decided on September 13 to set up 24 teams for every municipal ward in Mumbai to fix the potholes.
