Recently, the Central Government took a major step to enhance the availability of affordable housing for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), the income limit for EWS individuals was raised from INR 3 lakh to INR 6 lakh. This increase applies only to the Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP) projects in the region.

The move comes after the Maharashtra government made a formal request to the Central Government to implement the change.
