The constant surge in the number of vehicles that ride along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is only causing damage to its panels. Turns out the heavy weight that is borne by the expressway is taking a toll on to its panel and has caused cracks the number of which is as huge as 8000. On the other hand, the Executive Engineer for MSRD stated it on Tuesday that since the redevelopment of the express way has just started; people do not need to fret about anything.

The number of vehicles on that run across the expressway is as high as 50000, out of which most are the heavy vehicles. And it was just last year when the issue of the expressway developing cracks came to light. As a result, the MSRD started off with the redevelopment and repair work. At that time, a committee was formed by the MSRD so as to check that exactly how many cracks the panel has developed. Ergo, the committee submitted its detailed report to MSRD that consisted the complete detailing from December 2016 to March 2017 for the expressways. As per this report, the panel had developed 8000 cracks amongst one and a half lakh.

The Joint Managing Director, for MMRDC, Mr. K.V. Kurundkar after receiving the report, got the redevelopment work started. He stated the cracks are happening because of the heavy-weighted vehicles.
