The Minister further informed that the Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop project is likely to be a reality in the coming future and will be implemented using the Swiss Challenge Method, the media reports stated.

“The Maharashtra infrastructure development enabling authority is currently examining the financial cost, land acquisition and risk assessment and planning for the project,” Eknath Shinde said according to a report published in Hindustan Times.

Earlier, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had stated that the state government will consider the Hyperloop project if it is successful in another country. Ajit Pawar had also pointed out that such mode of transport for the public was not implemented anywhere else across the globe.

This project will be implemented using Swiss Challenge Method. For those unaware with this method, in this method, an interested party initiates a proposal for a contract or the bid for a project. Post these details are received the government makes details of the project public. The government then invites proposals from others. After receiving other bids, the original contractor gets an opportunity to match the best bid.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will be the in charge of the project and the same will be implemented through a public-private partnership.

The hyperloop project was conceptualised by the previous Devendra Fadnavis-led government in Maharashtra.
