The ongoing construction of the Mumbra bypass on Thane-Belapur (TB) road has brought a wave of traffic chaos in Navi Mumbai. Long traffic jams have become a common sight, leaving drivers frustrated and struggling to navigate through the congested roads. The bypass project is anticipated to be completed within a week. It is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion.

One of the major factors contributing to the traffic is the allowance of heavy vehicles to travel on TB Road starting from 10 pm. This has resulted in a significant increase in traffic congestion, particularly during the nighttime.

Even the Sion-Panvel highway (an alternate route) is experiencing heavy traffic as drivers seek alternatives to the congested TB Road.

To facilitate the bypass construction, traffic from Shil Phata has been redirected to the Thane-Belapur route via the TTC MIDC area. Similarly, the Sion-Panvel highway has been utilised as a detour for traffic from Kalamboli junction to Mumbra. However, these diversions have further intensified the pressure on road movements.

Once the Mumbra Bypass is open for public use, it is expected to bring substantial relief to the city's traffic congestion woes. The bypass route will serve as a crucial means to separate outgoing traffic from the city. The Rabale and Mahape areas will particularly benefit from the completion of the bypass project. They have been greatly affected by the traffic diversions.

Additionally, the opening of the bypass is also anticipated to alleviate the heavy traffic on the Vashi creek bridge.
