The new Versova Bridge constructed on the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder has been opened for one route from Mumbai and Thane towards Surat. The bridge was opened for traffic in just 3 hours after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted in this regard and indicated that the bridge would be opened. This will provide a great relief to motorists from the traffic congestion of the old Versova Bridge.

To reach Palghar and Gujarat from Mumbai as well as Thane, one has to cross the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder. The first bridge over this creek was built in 1968. As this bridge became weak, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) started construction of a new Versova Bridge next to the old Versova Bridge. This bridge has 4 lanes and the work of this bridge was started in January 2018. Although the construction of the bridge is in the final stage, the inauguration date of February 20 was postponed. On Monday around 4:00 pm Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the bridge will be opened soon. Therefore, the system started working and at 7:00 pm, one lane of the bridge was opened, and it was announced by the National Highways Authority.

Relief from the congestion?

With the opening of the route of this bridge towards Surat, the motorists will get a big relief from the traffic jams on the old bridge every day. The NHAI project director Munkud Attarde said that the Mumbai-bound route will be completed within the monsoon.
