MHADA allots only 63 houses for Economically Weaker Section

Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) have been claiming that they construct houses keeping economically weaker section (EWS) in mind. Likewise, they announced that they will be allotting 480 houses for EWS in the upcoming MHADA Mumbai Board lottery, which will be released on December 16, 2018. However, in reality, only 63 houses have been alloted for EWS category that are worth ₹20 lakh.

Generally, more than the low-income group and middle-income group, people who belong to EWS apply for MHADA's lottery in large numbers, to fulfill their dream of owning a house in Mumbai. However, in the last 3-4 years, MHADA has been allotting fewer houses to the EWS category. In the 2017 lottery, MHADA had reserved only eight houses for EWS category.

MHADA Mumbai Board’s senior official said that in comparison to last year, this year, they alloted 63 houses for EWS. He added that people who belonged to LIG are in need of more houses, hence, they try making more houses available for the same.
