On Sunday, July 3, more than 600 Mumbaikars participated in a peaceful protest against the Metro 3 car shed site near the Aarey forest's picnic point, reports highlighted. The "Save Aarey" event witnessed the participation of students, environmentalists, NGOs, political parties and individuals. Not just this, but even certain members of tribal settlements from inside the forest were also seen in the agitation.

Based on accounts, the protest was underway amid tight police security for almost an hour. During the agitation, slogans such as "Save Aarey", "Aarey Humari Shaan Hai, Mumbai Ki Jaan Hai" were raised.

According to narratives, the protestors claimed that the metro car shed problem is being dragged owing to a political vendetta. This they say is being done in spite of the fact that an alternative plan was made ready by the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.

The former state environment minister, Aaditya Thackeray tweeted in support of the movement and urged the newly instated government to reconsider its decision. He said, "Don’t cast the hate for us, onto our beloved Mumbai. Aarey isn’t only about 2700+ trees, it is about its biodiversity that we are seeking to protect in our Mumbai."

He added, "While the carshed work was given a stay by the then CM, Uddhav Thackeray ji, the work on the Line 3 was fully supported to be carried on. The alternate location of Kanjurmarg, disputed by GoI, will fit in depots for metro lines 3,4,6,14 into 1 space, thus saving on cost & time."
