Raigad Building Collapse : Police to file FIR against 5 people

A day after a multi-storey building in Mahad of Raigad collapse, the police said that they will be filing a first information report (FIR) against five people.

Three floors of a multi-storey building in Mahad of Raigad district collapsed on Monday evening. The incident in question took place around 18:50 hours. 

As per the news agency ANI, at least one person has lost their lives in this incident. one person had lost his life in this incident. The name of the building is Tarique Garden and it was a ground-plus-four structure. The building was not more than 10 years ago and around 40 families were residing in the building. The person who died in the incident was not the resident of this building.

The rescue operations have been going on for more than 12 hours now. Three teams from NDRF and 12 teams of fire brigade have been working in rescuing people that were trapped in the building.

At the time of filing, 19 people were still feared trapped under the debris, as per ANI.

Aditi Tatkare, guardian minister for Raigad district, said a committee would be formed to probe the incident. He mentioned that a panel will investigate how and why an incident of this nature happened. Furthermore, the structural audit will also be carried out of other buildings to prevent similar incidents,” Tatkare said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed in a press statement shared that he was saddened by the incident and also wished that all those injured will have a speedy recovery.

President Ram Nath Kovind also expressed his feeling in a tweet. He took to Twitter to share that he was distressed with the loss of life.  

The conversation of unsafe building has been brought to light a couple of times in this monsoon season. In the month of July, a couple of building had collapsed due to rain in Mumbai.
