The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to set up a recreation centre and sports complex on the banks of the Mithi River at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The MMRDA has invited tenders of interest for construction of recreation centre and sports complex on 'block-use-transfer' basis. Two helipads will also be constructed in this project and it is also planned to be used as an air ambulance base.

R G 23 A and R G 23 B which falls in BKC G Block and is nearby Mithi river has 8.73 hectares of area and 2.47 hectares of area is in R G 6. It has a total area of 10.84 hectares. This space is reserved for the recreation centre. The MMRDA has decided to come up with a recreation centre and sports complex on this site.

The proposal in this regard was approved in the 154th meeting of the authority. After getting the approval, the MMRDA has called for interested tenders for the construction of this project on Wednesday. The project will be built on the principle of 'build-use-transfer'.

The work will be awarded to the tenderer who pays the maximum share of revenue from the entertainment center and sports complex to MMRDA. The land for entertainment centre and sports complex will be made available for 30 years to the company selected after the tender process. Aspirants can submit interested tenders till June 17.

MMRDA is developing BKC as a world class financial hub. Today the BKC has a large number of international companies, offices of national and international banks, schools, hospitals, private and government offices. The area around BKC is heavily populated.

The MMRDA has taken up this project with the aim of providing recreational facilities to the people coming to BKC for work and nearby citizens, to play various games and to train children in sports.

Therefore, many facilities like playground and various sports facilities, auditorium, garden will be developed in this project. Apart from this, two helipads will also be constructed on the roof of the recreation centre and sports complex building. Also, this helipad will be used as an air ambulance base.
