BDD chawl redevelopment work set to start soon

After fixing a date for bhoomipujan of BDD chawl redevelopment at Naigaon and N.M. Joshi Marg here, the MHADA authorities have started further preparations and awaiting the confirming of date from the chief minister’s office which is likely to done on Wednesday, said Sambhaji Zende, vice-chairman of MHADA, while talking to Mumbai Live.

Recently, the redevelopment work of these BDD chawls has been awarded to the L&T and the Shapoorji Pallonji companies. As the actual work is going to be started soon, MHADA has planned to get its bhoomipujan performed. The housing agency of the state government has started preparations in this regard and awaiting the confirmation on date and timing from the CMO.

MHADA plans to start construction work where it finds open land so that it can fulfill the dream of BDD chawl residents to own big and better homes.
Meanwhile, some organizations and BDD chawl residents are continuing their oppose to this redevelopment work. Kiran Mane, president of Akhil BDD Bhadekaru Sangh, reiterated that residents would not let MHADA to hold the bhoomipujan programme.
