The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will be setting up additional rumble strips along the 10km ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The rumble strips will be put up at specific points along the expressway.

The corporation is preparing a plan to ensure the safety of the motorists during the cold season. They cannot control the speed limit of the vehicles according to the seasons. However, they can take necessary steps as the ghat section witnesses heavy fog, especially during winters, an MSRDC official said.

He further said that they are still trying to identify a few spots on both the lanes where rumble strips can be set up. Their purpose is to further decrease the speed of the vehicles. They are calculating the number of rumble strips that they will set on the expressway since they can't set many strips as it will prove anti-productive.

The MSRDC is also considering setting up the fog lights along the ghat. The additional rumble strips will be set up on the Mumbai-Pune side of the Expressway will be on the right stretch after the food mall near Khalapur.

This development came days after, on Monday, October 18, a tragic mishap had occurred at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway where three people were killed and six injured as seven vehicles collided.
