The dream of Mumbaikars to reach Navi Mumbai in just 20 to 22 minutes from Sewri on the Sewri Nhava Sheva Sea Bridge through the Mumbai Porbandar project will be fulfilled by the end of December or the beginning of the new year. However, drivers and passengers will have to wait till December 2025 to reach the entrance of this sea bridge i.e. Sewri in South Mumbai easily and fast. Because the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has given a date of December 2025 for the completion of this project. Meanwhile, in the Sewri -Worli elevated road project connecting the Sagari Setu, the rehabilitation of 19 buildings has been hampered. Efforts are being made by MMRDA to remove this hurdle. Meanwhile, 50 percent of the work on this road has been completed so far.

The 21.80 km long Sewri -Nhava Sea Bridge is being constructed by MMRDA. More than 96 percent of the work of this project has been completed and MMRDA is planning to put this project into traffic service by the end of December or the beginning of the new year. If traffic starts from this sea bridge, it will be possible to reach Navi Mumbai from Sewri in 20 to 22 minutes. Therefore, this project is considered very ambitious. MMRDA has undertaken the 4.5 km Worli to Sewri Elevated Road project to make it easier for drivers and passengers to reach the gateway of this sea bridge i.e. Sewri from South Mumbai.

The work of this project was started in May 2021 through contractor Kumar. MMRDA had said that this project will be completed in 2024. But the project will have to wait till December 2025 for completion.

Obstacles of land acquisition

MMRDA plans to put this road into service along with the sea bridge. However, the project is getting delayed due to technical problems. So now the project has been postponed for two years. Meanwhile, according to the information given by the officials, land acquisition is becoming a big obstacle. 19 buildings including 850 huts are affected by this road. Although 850 huts have been removed, 19 buildings in Prabhadevi have to be rehabilitated.
