The Central Government has some good news for the slum dwellers residing in slums before 2011. These slums will be put up under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and will be given a grant of ₹2.5 lakh. This will reduce the construction cost of these huts automatically and will be a great relief for the dwellers.

In order to solve the problems of unauthorised slums in Mumbai, the state government has provided protection to slums standing from 2000 to 2011 in the city. Due to which, more than two lakh slums will get an assurance about their homes. Under the Slum Redevelopment Scheme, these huts will be redeveloped and the house will be given to the slum dwellers.

However, the house will not be given to the slum-dwellers free of cost as the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) will levy construction charges on the people residing in the slums and will provide the house to the dwellers permanently.

As the slums are scattered in different parts of Mumbai, the construction fee for each place will be different. However, it is certain that these slum dwellers will have to pay more than ₹10 lakh. Since the amount is big, the slum dwellers will have to pay the amount when they want to take over the house.
