In a significant development, to handle growing traffic, the rail over bridge (ROB) at Mothagoan level crossing in Dombivli will now be built with four lanes instead of two lanes as proposed earlier.
The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has revised its plan to provide huge relief for commuters struggling with traffic woes in the area.
With this, the travel time between Dombivli and Thane via the Mankoli flyover is expected to reduce from nearly one hour to just 25 minutes.
According to officials, the project will cost around INR 170 crore and will be carried out with support from the railways.
KDMC has already sent the proposal to the state government for funding approval, which is expected soon.
The decision to widen the bridge came after citizens and local leaders, including former Sena (UBT) corporator Dipesh Mhatre, demanded a larger structure to accommodate future traffic needs.
Once approved, the project is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion for thousands of commuters travelling between Dombivli and Thane.
