The Thane District Police is considering a 40-acre plot at Sape Vashere, situated around 30 kilometres from Thane city and 10 km from Bhiwandi, to construct a headquarters.

The Thane District Police Superintendent, Vikram Deshmane is currently sharing premises with the Thane City Police. It’s worth noting that Palghar district, which used to be a part of Thane, has its own district police headquarters.

Thane Guardian Minister, Eknath Shinde chaired a meeting on Thursday regarding a new headquarters for Thane District Police. Shinde asked the Superintendent of Police to prepare a report at the earliest so as to ensure the State Revenue Department can acquire the plot.

“The site at Sape Vashere is centrally located. We need a parade ground, indoor shooting range, quarters for officers and men and also a transport wing,” Deshmane said.

The meeting also had Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manukumar Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Nitin Kareer, SP Vikram Deshmane, Collector Rajesh Narvekar, and DGP Sanjay Pandey in attendance. DGP Pandey said at the meeting that the district police headquarters will require 40 acres of land.

“The Thane district police headquarters has a restricted amount of space due to its location in Thane city. The extra space will allow it set up a proper parade ground as well as other amenities,” an officer said.

“Residents from rural areas find it difficult to come to the Thane police headquarters in the city to file complaints, especially in emergency situations. To help save the commute, the police administration has proposed that the headquarters be constructed in rural areas,” the officer went on to say.
