Various road development works are going on through MMRDA to bring drastic changes in the traffic situation in Thane Municipal area and surrounding area. Thane Municipal Corporation is completely positive about the difficulties in land acquisition, environmental approval, issues related to trees etc. required for these works. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has clarified that all possible cooperation will be given to resolve this matter immediately.

A meeting was held on Tuesday, January 7, under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao to review the ongoing traffic improvement projects in Thane Municipal area and localities through MMRDA. 


A review meeting was held to assess transport improvement projects, including the consolidation of Ghodbunder Road and Sewa Road, Anand Nagar to Saket Unnat Road, Balkum to Gaimukh Coastal Road, Gaimukh to Payegaon Creek Bridge, and Kasarvadvali to Kharbav Creek Bridge.


Projects like the Kolshet to Kalher Khadi Bridge and the Thane-Borivali Subway were also discussed. Key topics included land acquisition under Thane Municipal Corporation, environmental clearances, tree plantation, and the relocation of water and sewage channels.


Airoli to Katai Naka
A revised proposal for land acquisition for the additional land required for the elevated road from Airoli to Katai Naka will be sent to the Collector's Office, as well as a revised proposal to the State Government for seeking funds for the cost of this increased land acquisition.

Thane Municipal Corporation is acquiring 12.59 hectares of land for Airoli to Katai road. The original proposal for this was INR 253 crores. A survey is going to be done to find out how much more space will be required by increasing it, as well as how much it will cost. Subsequently, the meeting decided to send revised proposals for both land acquisition and incremental expenditure.


Ghodbunder Road Consolidation 

The relocation of Mahavitran power lines will be a major challenge in the Ghodbunder Road and Seva Road integration project. Mahavitaran, MMRDA and Thane Municipal Corporation should carry out a joint survey in the next eight days for the relocation of these channels. Also, instructions were given in this meeting that a plan should be prepared for this migration.


Discount on security deposit amount

On the lines of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao instructed the Parks Department to study the law and submit a proposal to give a discount to the MMRDA in the security deposit amount taken for felling of trees. Similarly, replanting of affected trees, planting of new trees will also be done through Thane Municipal Park Department. Ashwin Mudgal, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, explained that the expenses for the same will be paid by MMRDA. 


Thane-Borivali subway

Eight lakh liters of water will be required per day for the construction of the Thane-Borivali subway. In this meeting, a decision was taken to provide treated water from Thane Municipal Corporation's sewage treatment plant for this project. Also, instructions were given in the meeting regarding shifting the route of the fifteen hundred mm water channel under Amrit Jal Yojana. 

Gaimukh to Payegaon Khadi Bridge

Ashwin Mudgal directed in the meeting that a detailed plan of land acquisition, CRZ forest division plus area should be prepared in fifteen days to speed up the work of Gaimukh to Payegaon creek bridge.
