Taken aback by a rather one of a kind peaceful message stuck on an open manhole on a footpath in Thane, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) got on the site in the blink of an eye, to address the issue on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, citizens commuting to work were flabbergasted to see a flower bouquet with a note saying, "Saheb", atop a manhole that invited trouble to any pedestrian walking through. Onlookers then went on to click pictures and take videos of the scene which became viral in no time. Accounting to this, the TMC rushed to the spot to abrest themselves of the inadequate work undertaken by the contractors and instructed prompt repairs to the same.

Dr Binu Varghese, a local activist who shared images of the site claimed that the manholes are opposite the residence of Sanjay Kelkar, local BJP legislator. Not just this, it is also near Dr Jitendra Awhad Nationalist Congress Party's Housing Minister's earlier home. Dr Varghese noted that despite the visible danger that it may cause, neither the authorities nor the party leaders have taken any steps. He added that the flowers and the note planted have done a service to society.

However, a few hours into the incident, the entire footpath was refurbished and all the manhole covers were prepared. Dr Varghese whilst lauded the authorities prompt response, has requested them to study any such open manholes and repair them to prevent any future accidents.
