Two New Skyscrapers To Come Up at the Infamous Dagdi Chawl

Byculla’s Dagdi Chawl, home to former underworld don Arun Gawli and his family, will see the emergence of two new skyscrapers, as per a new report. A total of ten chawls at this compound in Agripada are owned by Gawli and will see the addition of multi-storey towers.  

Approving the development of her father’s former home, Geeta Gawli, who is also the local BMC corporator said that the 350 tenants currently residing in the chawls will get homes of at least 450 square feet.

“We are at the planning stage and we have finalized a local builder to undertake this redevelopment,” she said.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) recently filed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for this redevelopment project. This was reportedly done after receiving due consent from the residents of Dagdi Chawl. 

Chief Officer at Mumbai Building Repair And Reconstruction Board (MBRRB), Arun Dongre said, “Now the builder will get their plans sanctioned from BMC. Then the eligibility of the tenants will be finalised and after that MHADA will issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC).”
