Doubts raised on MHADA’s affordable housing in Konkan

Doubts raised on MHADA’s affordable housing in Konkan

Mumbai – The Konkan zone of MHADA has been constructing 23,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The place where these houses are being constructed lacks basic facilities of water, electricity and roads. This fact raises a question mark on the response of prospective buyers of this housing scheme.

As per informed sources in the MHADA, the officials of MHADA are doubtful about the response to this project from the prospective home buyers. Some officers have expressed their reservation about this scheme to their senior officers but the government has been pressurising the MHADA authorities to take this project forward. The houses undergoing construction at the cost of crores of rupees will gather dust in future and hence it will prove futile efforts on the part of the government.

The Konkan zone of MHADA has invited tenders for construction of 23,000 houses in villages including Shirdhon, Khoni, Guntheghar, Barawe, Bhandarli, etc. These villages are facing the problems of load-shedding for 10-12 hours regularly. Somewhere there is no availability of water and roads. The villages having more than 6000 population will have 12000 houses in multi-storey towers. This has provoked MHADA officials to register their oppose to this project.

It is interesting to note here that houses in this project will be for the people living in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. On this backdrop, the MHADA will have no other option than to provide these basic facilities to the future residents of this project.
